MISSION:
The Junior League of St. Louis is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
FOCUS: Strengthening Our Families
The Junior League of St. Louis (JLSL) provides volunteers, program funding and technical assistance to the community within its focus and areas of concentration:
- Protecting and Empowering our Children
- Women's Health and Well Being
RESOURCES TO THE COMMUNITY:
- Donates more than 375,000 volunteer hours annually to the community
- Supports selected community programs financially and with volunteers to complement JLSL focus
- Provides the St. Louis community with trained, effective community volunteers. JLSL members serve on over 350 not for profit boards and chair countless events annually
TRAINING:
JLSL actively trains its members to better serve the community through:
- Offering a curriculum in skills development and critical community issues
- Leadership Training Track which prepares members for League and community leadership
- A coordinated training program for those new to the organization
- Emphasis on practical experience within JLSL's multi-faceted organization
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
- A collaborative approach to solving community problems is used whenever possible
- Partnerships are formed with community organizations through programs and co-sponsorships
REACHING OUT STATEMENT AND MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION:
- JLSL reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism
- Approximately 1200 members in the metropolitan St. Louis area
- JLSL is a member of Association of Junior Leagues International with 294 Leagues worldwide
FUNDING:
- Supported by membership dues as well as funds raised from Annual Giving, Corporate Gifts, Planned Giving and Charitable Trusts, St. Louis Days...St. Louis Nights and Meet Us in the Kitchen cookbooks, Annual Dinner Auction, Polo Match, Holiday Mart, and additional fundraisers.
- Since its founding in 1914, JLSL has contributed more than $4,000,000 to the community
